YEREVAN. – The ongoing programs by the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Yerevan, and which are aimed at Armenia-Turkey and Armenia-Azerbaijan reconciliation, have been cut back.

The US Ambassador to Armenia, Richard Mills, stated the abovementioned during Tuesday’s press conference at the embassy.

The diplomat added, however, that these—plus the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)—programs will continue with their primary objectives.

“The USAID (…) will not close its doors [in Armenia],” Mills assured. “And the US Embassy is committed to the goal of working together with its Armenian partners.”

The American diplomat also noted that several new global challenges have risen.

“And under their influence, the US administration, led by President Barack Obama, has reviewed the amount of funding,” Richard Mills said, and added: “Within the framework of these steps, the amount of USAID assistance being allocated to Armenia has been reviewed, too.”
