In the course of debates on Armenian Genocide held in the European Parliament on Wednesday, the Bulgarian MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk – Turkish by descent – urged the parliamentarians to look into the future, not the past.

“Historic facts are historic facts, we should not abuse them Turkey and Armenia are mature enough in terms of democratic structures to resolve the issue themselves, discussion will hardly contribute to resolution. Look into the future, not to the past,” he said.

After his speech the floor was given to the Bulgarian MEP Angel Dzhambazki, who said that any crime against humanity must be condemned. Mr Dzhambazki directed a specific question to Ilhan Kyuchyuk on whether someone has to bear responsibility for that crime. The latter declined to answer the question.
