Samvel Petrosyan, an Armenian member of the Parliament of Georgia, spoke at a plenary session of the parliament, and urged to recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide.

The MP stated that it is indispensible to recognize what had occurred, so that such crimes can be prevented in the future, reported Gruzia Online news agency of Georgia.

“It’s important that historical events get the correct assessment. I hope that Turkey and Armenia find a common ground for the sake of regional peace and stability; that’s why the adequate assessment of history is important.

“What happened one hundred years ago is the great tragedy of the Armenian people to this day.

“I’m confident that if we had condemned the Armenian Genocide in timely fashion, such tragedies would not have occurred against any other nation in the world.

“I call upon all democratic countries, where this fact has not yet been condemned, to recognize it to prevent such crimes in the future,” Petrosyan stated, in particular.
