YEREVAN. – A group of human rights activists and attorneys are going to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), and with respect to the case involving Armenian villager Karen Petrosyan, who had died while in Azerbaijani captivity.

Kristina Gevorgyan, who is one of the lawyers involved in this case, informed about the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“As you know, criminal proceedings were instituted, [and] examinations were commissioned in Armenia on Karen Petrosyan’s death,” Gevorgyan said. “Now, we wait for the examination findings to be received, the reports to be completely gathered, whereupon the criminal case is discontinued, so we may appeal to the ECHR.”

Karen Petrosyan, a 32-year-old resident of Chinari village of Armenia’s Tavush Region, was captured by the Azerbaijanis on August 7, 2014. On the next day, Azerbaijan informed that the young man had “suddenly” died of an “acute heart failure.” The Azerbaijani authorities, however, had returned Petrosyan’s dead body to Armenia on October 10 of the year past.
