Russia's armed forces chief Generak Valery Gerasimov did not rule out “unfreezing” of the protracted conflicts in the post-Soviet area as a result of worsening relations between the West and Russia, TASS reported.
Against the background of strained relations of Russia with the United States and Europe, the likelihood of unfreezing these conflicts has increased, and this threatens to lead to the armed clashes near Russia's borders, Gerasimov said during the Moscow-hosted conference on international security.
In particular, the Russian army chief pointed to unsettled relations between Transnistria and Moldova, Georgia and Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Armenia and Azerbaijan over the status of Nagorno-Karabakh.
