Russian leader Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that Turkey and the Vatican will be able to settle tension caused by Pope's Armenian Genocide remarks, Interfax reported.

“I do not want to interfere with the controversy between Turkey and the Pope. Pope is so authoritative. I think the Pope is such an influential person in the world that he would find a way to explain himself to all people on the planet, regardless of their religious beliefs,” Putin told reporters after the Thursday's hotlines.

Putin expressed hope for prudence of the Turkish politicians who “are intelligent and flexible enough” to solve the problem, if there is any.
