Three political parties in the parliament of Turkey have prepared a joint letter against the Armenian Genocide resolution, which the European Parliament (EP) has adopted.

The letter notes that the European Parliament has reserved itself unlawful powers on behalf of the European Union countries, and brought against Turkey accusations which have nothing to do with historical reality, reported Milliyet daily of Turkey.

From the four parties in the Turkish parliament, however, solely the pro-Kurdish “Peoples’ Democratic Party” (HDP) refused to sign under this letter.

To note, HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtas had earlier stated that Turkey is making a mistake by responding in such a way to the Armenian Genocide-recognizing statements by Pope Francis and the European Parliament. Demirtas had also advised the Turkish authorities to carefully study and come to terms with Turkey’s past.
