Dmitry Peskov, who is the spokesperson of Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated that Putin’s visit to Yerevan on Friday, April 24, to attend the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations, cannot have a bearing on the construction of the “Turkish Stream” natural gas pipeline—from Russia to Turkey across the Black Sea—, and Moscow-Ankara relations.

RIA Novosti news agency of Russia reported the aforementioned.

“We [i.e. Russia] have very close partnership relations with the Republic of Turkey, and they are based on very strong mutually beneficial economic cooperation,” Peskov said, and added: “Our positions coincide on many world issues.”

He stressed, however, that Armenia and Russia are tied to one another by “myriads of various threads.”

“These events cannot be interpreted as damaging for anything,” Dmitry Peskov stated.
