The lower house of the Spanish parliament honored with a minute of silence the memory of the Armenian and other nations, who died hundred years ago in the Ottoman Empire. Nevertheless, the MPs abstained from using the word ‘genocide,’ the Spanish newspaper El Diario reports.

Earlier on Thursday the chamber discussed the possibility of the minute of silence, as well as the declaration. Afterwards the commemoration act was decided to be transferred to the lower house.

Today the parliament’s lower house held a seminar on Armenian Genocide, which was attended by Armenia’s ambassador to Spain Avet Adonts and the Leader of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Spain Mushegh Sargsyan.
