YEREVAN. – The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Thursday received Zoi Konstantopoulou, the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament.

First, Sargsyan thanked Konstantopoulou for her participation in the ongoing Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations in capital city Yerevan.

The President also expressed gratitude to the Greek people and authorities for providing shelter, at the time, for numerous survivors of the genocide. In addition, Sargsyan highly appreciated the fact that the Hellenic Parliament is one of the first to recognize the Armenian Genocide, and later, to adopt a bill against racism and xenophobia.

The Greek parliament leader, for her part, thanked Armenia for its great efforts to prevent future genocides. Konstantopoulou stressed that the Hellenic Parliament and herself are Armenia’s important and reliable ally in the international recognition of historical justice.

At the ensuing talk, the President of Armenia and the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament highly praised the Armenian-Greek friendship, and expressed willingness to make the necessary effort to further expand the bilateral ties.

The interlocutors also reflected on the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, and the key issues on the foreign policy agenda of Armenia and Greece.
