YEREVAN. – There is no alternative to the fight against genocides and crimes against humanity.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, said the abovementioned Thursday at the two-day International Social and Political Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide. This forum was devoted to the Armenian Genocide Centennial, it was held in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, and about 600 participants from fifty countries took part in this event.

In Nalbandian’s words, terrible crimes have occurred in the world over the last one hundred years.

“It is known that if we don’t want a repeat of the tragedy, we need to analyze the preconditions of the previous genocides.

“The international community is not sufficiently consistent and united in genocide prevention, and the appropriate political conclusions were not made.

“A great consistency is required in the fight against xenophobia, since these are what provoke genocides,” Armenia’s FM specifically noted.

He recalled that it is also necessary to raise respective awareness and eliminate the consequences of genocide.

“A denial campaign, a new strategy of denial is underway today,” Edward Nalbandian stated, and added: “Denial does not open a path to reconciliation, but opens a door to new genocides.”
