YEREVAN. - Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian on Thursday met with US Secretary of Treasury Jacob Lew.

Lew has arrived in Armenia as the head of the US Presidential delegation to represent his country at the commemoration events of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. The US Presidential delegation includes US Congress members Frank Pallone, Anna Eshoo, Jackie Speier, and David Trott.

Welcoming the guests, Foreign Minister Nalbandian thanked the US delegation for their participation at the commemoration of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. He emphasized that the presence of numerous delegations in Yerevan on this special day for the Armenian people demonstrates that the Armenian Genocide is not just a national tragedy, but a crime against the humanity. Minister Nalbandian underscored the joint efforts of the international community in preventing genocides, and thanked the US for co-sponsoring, together with Armenia, the Resolution on Prevention of Genocide at the UN Human Rights Committee.

US Secretary of Treasury Jacob Lew, for his part, noted that it is an honor for him to represent the US President and people in Armenia on April 24, the day of the genocide anniversary.

Minister Nalbandian expressed his gratitude to the congress members in the delegation and their colleagues of the Armenian Caucus for their consistent efforts towards the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Several other matters discussed during the meeting included the development of bilateral cooperation in a variety of domains and activities of the US-Armenia Economic Task Force (USATF), and there was an exchange of views on the activities in developing a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement between Armenian and the United States.
