Colosseum lights will be switched off for 15 minutes on Friday evening in memory of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The light of Colosseum archs will switch off from 22 to 22:15 in memory of the genocide, committed against the Armenian people in the beginning of the 20th century, Italian news agency ANSA reports. Corresponding arrangements have been made by the Mayor’s office of Italy’s capital.

Through this initiative, the country’s leadership wants to pay tribute to the memory of the mass killings, known in the world as the first genocide of the 20th century. Similar action is expected to take place at the same time in Paris, where the Eiffel Tower lights will also go off.
