Russia values its relations with Turkey and doesn’t think that President Vladimir Putin’s participation in the events in Armenia will have a negative impact on them, Press-secretary for Russian President Dmitry Peskov said.

“It’s quite natural that the President was present together with other leaders in Yerevan. It’s very important to attentively familiarize with President Putin’s statement and it’s very important not to forget that Turkey is at the same time our strategic partner,” Peskov said.

According to him, Russia and Turkey “have diversified relations. We think that the perspectives of development of our relations are wide,” Ria Novosti reports. “We don’t think that the President’s participation in the commemoration events can anyhow have a negative impact,” Peskov added.

On Friday Vladimir Putin took part in the commemoration events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in capital city Yerevan. Putin stated that that tragedy had and could have no justification.

Turkey’s MFA reacted acutely to Putin’s words, ‘reminding’ of Russia’s mass killings in Caucasus.
