The lights of the Colosseum in Rome, Italy, were turned off for fifteen minutes on Friday, April 24—that is, on the day of the Armenian Genocide Centennial—, in memory of the genocide victims.

From 10pm to 10։15pm local time, the famous arena disappeared from the night view of the Italian capital city.

The Rome City Hall had decided to express its condolences in this way.

“Mayor Ignazio Marino’s initiative is another proof of the great friendship and common values that unite our peoples,” said Armenia’s Ambassador to Italy, Sargis Ghazaryan, reported Corriere di Roma daily.

“The Pope likewise had expressed his condolences to the Armenian people during the mass that was offered [recently] at the St. Peter’s Basilica [in the Vatican],” wrote Informa Roma Nord.
