YEREVAN. – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, on Saturday met with Héctor Timerman, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Argentina, who is in Armenia to attend the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations.

Nalbandian thanked his Argentine colleague for participating in these remembrance events, which were held in capital city Yerevan.

They also stressed the importance of uniting the international community’s efforts in the fight against genocides and other crimes against humanity.

Following the talk, the Armenian and Argentinean FMs, as well as first vice president Norma Abdala de Matarazzo of the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina, planted a fir at the memorial park of the Armenian Genocide Memorial. The fir was planted in memory of the former President of Argentina, the late Néstor Kirchner, and in appreciation of his contribution to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

After the tree planting, Edward Nalbandian underscored the fact that, back in 1994, Argentina had formally recognized the Armenian Genocide, and stressed the high level of Armenian-Argentine relationships.
