Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Sergei Naryshkin, supported Czech Republic President Miloš Zeman’s view on a common future for Russia and the European Union (EU).

As per Zeman, now is the right time to not just dream, but to speak about and also start consultations on this common future.

“It is not the first time that our country has spoken about a possible future integration of the two regional unions—the EEU [i.e. the Eurasian Economic Union, which includes Armenia, Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan] and the European Union,” Naryshkin wrote in the Komsomolskaya Pravda daily of Russia.

The Russian State Duma leader added, however, that such a formulation of this matter is not an imagination, since Russia was and remains in the family of European nations.”

On April 23, Czech President Miloš Zeman had admitted to considering a future integration between the Russian and the EU economies.
