YEREVAN. – New details were revealed about Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s upcoming visit to the US, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reported.

“In particular, according to our information, an invitation was sent also to US President Barack Obama to participate in the events expected [to be held] in the US capital city of Washington[, DC.] from May 7 to 9, in connection with the 100th anniversary of the [Armenian] Genocide. It is unknown whether or not Obama will honor this invitation.

“The same sources note that official meetings are not planned during Serzh Sargsyan’s visit [to the US]. Sargsyan is actually heading for the US to primarily smoothen relations with the local Armenian community, and to secure certain financial flows and investments [into Armenia].

“The thing is that the Armenian community of the US, which is considered is one of the largest [Diaspora Armenian communities] in the world, has a very negative attitude toward the RA authorities, and RA former PM, RA Ambassador to the US Tigran Sargsyan is unable to improve the situation,” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.
