The Francophone Democratic Federalists (FDF) Party Faction at the Chamber of Representatives of the Federal Parliament of Belgium has introduced a bill that envisages punishment for denying the Armenian Genocide.

Genocide recognition debates are returning on the agenda of the Chamber of Representatives, reported La Libre daily of Belgium.

The FDF faction submitted a proposal to extend the law that criminalizes the denial of genocides in 1995. Accordingly, this law will also apply to the Armenian and the Rwandan Genocides, and all other genocides that are internationally recognized through courts.

The FDF faction at the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region is preparing the text of this document, and with the objective of achieving the Armenian Genocide’s recognition at the regional level and among the French-speaking community of Belgium.

In 1998, the Belgian Senate had recognized the Armenian Genocide and called on Turkey to acknowledge its past.
