Azerbaijani political scientist Vafa Guluzade has died at the age of 74.

Guluzade, who was a specialist in conflict resolution, had worked as Foreign Policy State Advisor for Azerbaijan President Heydar Aliyev between 1990 and 1999. 

He was also a constant member of the State Security Council. 

In 1999, and due to disagreements on key foreign policy issues with the then leadership, Guluzade resigned from the position of the Foreign Policy Advisor for the President of Azerbaijan and established the Caspian Policy Studies Foundation, whose chairmen included Henry Kissinger, Zbigniew Brzezinski, and James Baker.
