YEREVAN. – Many European countries can dream about voter turnout that was registered during the parliamentary elections in Karabakh, member of the European Parliament Frank Engel told reporters.

“In 2013 presidential elections were held in a country, that seems to be called Azerbaijan, but their results were announced the day before the vote. The elections were held only in order to give the president of this country an additional 10% of the vote,” said Engel, head of European Parliament-Artsakh friendship group.

He said they had visited 20 polling stations in Karabakh: in Stepanakert and in remote rural areas,

“Yesterday's elections were held in accordance with international best practice. I regret that the EU has declared that it does not recognize the elections. But I am sure that if Artsakh did not hold election, in this case Europe would be discontent over the fact that these elections are not held,” he said during a media conference.

A total of 70.6 percent of the voters have participated in Sunday’s parliamentary election that was conducted in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR).
