Zorakan village of Armenia’s Tavush Region was the venue Sunday for the unveiling of the busts of ex-USSR heroes, Armenian Marshalls Ivan (Hovhannes) Bagramyan and Hamazasp Babadzhanian, and of the three cross-stones devoted to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, World War II, and the Karabakh War.

The Minister of Defense of Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan, also was on hand at the celebratory event. Ohanyan, in his remarks, reflected on the Soviet Armenian marshals’ actions and the Armenian fighters’ heroics in the Great Patriotic War, heroics which were echoed during the Karabakh War.

Zorakan village is symbolic because the fact that, due to circumstances, nearly 60 percent of the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh’s Chardakhlu village had resettled there in the 1980s.

In addition, the Armenian defense minister awarded departmental medals to the event organizers, the sponsors who helped create these monuments, the Zorakan villagers who had fought in the Karabakh War, and several military servicemen.

Separately, 70th Anniversary of Victory medals were awarded to the Great Patriotic War veterans living in the Tavush Province.

The festive event was concluded with a concert, and performances by a special Armenian military division.
