Despite the uproar that was raised, the municipal authorities of Istanbul, Turkey, have begun demolishing the “Armen” Armenian orphanage located in the Tuzla suburb.

The bulldozers have entered the orphanage premises and started to demolish the building, reported Evrensel daily of Turkey.

To note, Istanbul Armenian journalist Hrant Dink—the founder and chief editor of Agos Armenian bilingual weekly of Istanbul, who was shot dead on January 19, 2007 outside the office of his weekly—and his wife Rakel Dink had grown up in this orphanage.

It is noted that the Istanbul authorities are planning to build luxury homes where this Armenian orphanage is located.
