The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin may also present a legal claim demanding that Turkey return the property confiscated from the church.

The Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II, told the Voice of America that the historians and attorneys are now working on such a lawsuit.

The Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia as well the Patriarchates of Jerusalem and Constantinople of the Armenian Apostolic Church have already presented a legal claim demanding from Turkey the return of their property.

“We believe that the raising of this issue should become accessible to wider circles, to Turkey’s population, condemning the [Armenian] Genocide committed at the turn of the [20th] century, and demanding that Turkey itself recognizes the Armenian Genocide and also responds to the claimancy of our people,” Karekin II said. “We believe that Turkey has no alternative.”
