YEREVAN. – Emigration has reached terrible proportions in Armenia, and that is why the number of apartment buyers has substantially dropped in capital city Yerevan.

Chairman of the Union of Architects of Armenia (UAA), Mkrtich Minasyan, stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Monday.

In his view, it is time for the Armenian authorities to conduct a policy whereby small workshops are created, and the people will have jobs and not emigrate from the country.

“We have a wonderful nature and motherland, [and] it is from the authorities’ apathetic attitude [that] the people are emigrating with longing in their hearts,” Minasyan noted.

As per the UAA head, the proprietors of the new buildings in Armenia have not engaged in the right business from the very beginning. Otherwise, these living spaces would have been inhabited.

He added that the majority of apartment buyers in Yerevan’s new apartment buildings are Diaspora Armenians, who have purchased these apartments to live in for solely two months of the year.

“The majority of the population in Armenia is unable to buy such apartments with these enormous amounts,” Mkrtich Minasyan said. “Unfortunately, there are two dimensions in our country; one is for the ordinary people, the other—[for] the chosen ones.”
