YEREVAN. – There is no progress in the domain of church-building in Armenia; they are simply duplications of the typical churches.

Chairman of the Union of Architects of Armenia (UAA), Mkrtich Minasyan, noted the above-said at a press conference on Monday.

Minasyan added that the Armenian authorities should have run a policy whereby the investors would have restored old churches instead of building new ones next to them.

He noted, however, that no one shall be prohibited from having a church built with his money.

The UAA head also stated that he is against the trend of building humongous churches.

“The ‘gigantamania,’ which we now have, is not characteristic for us [i.e. Armenians]; this is due to the wishes of the investors of money,” Mkrtich Minasyan said. “Unfortunately, we are unable to create an environment that the wish of the orderer is not fulfilled.”
