YEREVAN. - Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan today received Suma Chakrabarti, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the delegation led by him.

Sargsyan highly appreciated EBRD’s operation in Armenia and the longstanding effective cooperation with it, including the funding of state economic infrastructure development programs, support to small and medium enterprises, as well as implementation of over 100 projects aimed at the development of financial markets, state purchases and other fields.

Armenia's President emphasized the significance of the bank’s participation in the long-term projects that are of primary importance to Armenia’s economy. He also welcomed EBRD’s readiness to expand the volume of bank’s operation in Armenia within the framework of a four-year cooperation strategy.    

Suma Chakrabarti also noted with satisfaction that EBRD’s cooperation with Armenia is strengthening year by year. Consequently, according to him, the bank-funded projects in Armenia have grown unprecedentedly in 2014.

The attendees touched upon the current state of Armenia’s economy, the ongoing economic reforms, including the work carried out so far for the improvement of business and investment environment, as well as the further programs. EBRD President expressed readiness to support –with all the means possessed by the Bank - the Armenian government’s efforts to improve the business environment in the country.  

The Presidents also discussed the possible directions and priorities of expanding the Armenia-EBRD cooperation, touching upon the development of Armenia-EU cooperation, as well as  the new opportunities and perspectives for Armenia’s development after joining the EEU.
