YEREVAN. – The number of tourists visiting Armenia has increased by 11.3 percent in 2014 and totaled 1,300,000 people.

The head of the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Economy, Mekhak Apresyan, noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Wednesday. He added that this number is 120 thousand more than the previous year’s indicator.

“We have tourism growth every year. In addition, the domestic tourism indicator is rising more than the inbound tourism,” Apresyan stated. “Here, among other factors, the role of various festivals being held [in Armenia] is also huge.”

Director of the “Areni Fest” [Armenian Wine Festival] Foundation, Nune Manukyan, for her part, said, along with the development of tourism, the provincial hotel and home guesthouse business likewise is growing in Armenia.
