Armenian Parliament Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov, who is on official visit to Athens, had a separate meeting with Zoi Konstantopoulou, Greece’s Parliament Speaker, on Monday.

After the meeting, Sharmazanov and Konstantopoulou held a joint press conference.

During the press conference, Sharmazanov expressed his gratitude to Greece’s Parliament Speaker for her participation and speech during the ‘Against the Crime of Genocide’ Global Forum held in Armenia on April 22-23.

He told Konstantopoulou that Armenia’s Parliament will set up ‘Parliaments against genocides’ committee, and proposed to set up a similar committee in Greece’s Parliament as well. Sharmazanov also said that Armenia’s Parliament is going to make such calls to the parliaments of other countries too.

Referring to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process, Eduard Sharmazanov gave a positive mark to the balanced stance taken by Greece on the issue. He stressed that Armenia is solely for the peaceful settlement of the conflict and condemns any attempt of solving the issue by military means, noting that the right of self-determination knows no alternatives. The Greek Parliament Speaker reaffirmed that Greece is also for the solely peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Zoi Konstantopoulou expressed gratitude to the Armenian Parliament and specifically Armenia’s Parliament Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov for the unanimous adoption by Armenia’s Parliament of the statement condemning the Greek and Assyrian Genocide in the Ottoman Turkey on March 24. She stressed that Greece’s Parliament sides with Armenia in the struggle for the international acknowledgement and condemnation of genocides.
