Vice president of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov, attended, on Monday in the Greek capital city of Athens, an international conference entitled “Triad of Genocides: Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians.”

The NA vice-speaker also delivered an address at the event.

“On March 24, the National Assembly of Armenia unanimously adopted a statement whereby the genocide of the Greeks and Assyrians in Ottoman Turkey was condemned. With this statement we reaffirmed our position of fight for the recognition and condemnation of the genocide phenomenon.

“Unfortunately, instead of recognizing the genocides and shaking off the heavy burden, the power in Turkey goes to the way of denial, becoming accomplice in the crime committed a century ago, occupies a part of Cyprus, illegally blockades Armenia, keeps Article 301, organizes Gallipolis, trying to get into misunderstanding the international community, [and] swaggers the Pope and the leaders of the countries that recognize and condemn the genocide.

“We, the representatives of the three peoples, shall unite our potential for the protection of human rights, restoration of historical justice, and against Turkish denialism.

“It is not sufficient any more to fight solely for recognition and condemnation of the genocide of the Christian peoples in Ottoman Turkey. We shall achieve the criminalization of the Turkish denialism. Keeping silent about genocides can generate new genocides, and the Holocaust, the genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda and Darfur are the evidence of this.

“We shall be united at all platforms to voice the need to condemn the genocide phenomenon, [and] we shall fight against the denial policy of Turkey to exclude the birth of new Envers, new Talaats, new Kemals, and ultimately, new Hitlers,” Sharmazanov stated, in particular.
