YEREVAN. - The best route for the Iranian gas to get to Europe is via Armenia, Armenia’s ruling RPA faction MP Vahram Mkrtchyan stated at the Parliament Tuesday.

In light of the lifting of western sanctions against Iran, new geopolitical situation will most likely be formed in the region, this impacting Armenia as well, he said.

According to RPA MP, the expression of Armenia’s stance by Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan was well-timed. During his visit to China in late March, the President called on Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in the construction of Iran-Armenia railway station. And recently, during the session of Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, the President stated about the necessity to expand cooperation between EEU and Iran, paying attention to infrastructure projects, linking the Eurasian Union with South-Eastern Asia and Persian Gulf,

“If we consider the possible routes of Iranian gas to Europe, the most probable direction can be seen via Armenia. The tensions between Iran and Turkey are well-known, as are the complex relations with Azerbaijan because of ethnic matters. Thus, if for us Iran is a window to Asia, for Iran we can become one to Europe,” Mkrtchyan said.
