YEREVAN. – Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University is an Armenian institution just as French University or the American University of Armenia, Education Minister Armen Ashotyan said.

Armenia is an integral part of the European education area, the Minister said, responding to a question by Heritage MP Tevan Poghosyan about opening of the branch of Moscow State University in Yerevan.

“There are no separate education projects within Eurasian Economic Union. If there are any, Armenia will participate. However, these projects should not contradict the main principles and directions of the European education area, since Russia, Kazakhstan and now Belarus, as well as Armenia are members of the Bologna process,” Ashotyan explained.

Opening of the branch of Moscow State University is a political project in terms of possibility to strengthen Armenian-Russian humanitarian ties.

“But for us it is first of all an education project, since, whether we like it or not, my dear pro-Western citizens, the Moscow University is among the best 100 or 200 institutions in the world. And we, unfortunately, do not have other offer,” the Minister said, calling to keep education far from politics.
