The delegation of the Armenian parliament led by speaker of the National Assembly Galust Sahakyan is on an official visit to Canada.

On Saturday the delegates met with the representatives of the Armenian community. Speaker showed interest in the problems of the Armenian community and raised the questions, if necessary, during the meeting with local officials. Galust Sahakyan briefed community members on legislative reforms in Armenia.

Speaking about the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, he noted that the National Assembly set up a parliamentary committee “against genocide” that will appeal to the parliaments of various countries with a proposal to establish relevant committees. According to Sahakyan, the initiative will contribute to the fair demands of the Armenian people.

The Armenian parliament's speaker met with Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre. Galust Sahakyan said he was impressed to see thousands of protesters who took to the Montreal streets to condemn the Armenian Genocide. For his part, Mayor noted importance of cooperation between Yerevan and Montreal in different areas.

Galust Sahakyan laid flowers to the Armenian Genocide Memorial.
