YEREVAN. – We have basic model, about which we always have spoken; it is the parliamentary model.

The Government Chief of Staff-Minister of Armenia, Davit Harutyunyan, who is also a member of the Commission on Constitutional Reforms, told the above-said to reporters Tuesday at the National Assembly.

To the query on whether President Serzh Sargsyan’s concerns about switching to a parliamentary system of governance in the country have been dispelled, Harutyunyan responded, in particular: “I think it would be wrong to say that all hopes have dissipated once and for all. (…) But the most important question is whether it will be possible to ensure the proper checks and balances, discretions.”

The Armenian official noted, however, that he is not sure whether or not all political forces will support the parliamentary model, and the authorities are trying to work with all political forces and the respective talks will start soon.
