YEREVAN. – Electricity price rise has only one positive outcome, this may promote energy efficiency , Deputy Energy Minister Hayk Harutyunyan said during a seminar on introduction of E5P system.

“No one says electricity rise is needed. Every cloud has silver lining. Nevertheless, investments in energy efficiency in this case are even more attractive than it is now,” Deputy Minister said.

The Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) is a newly establish multi-donor fund modelled on Northern Dimension Environment Partnership (NDEP). The program provides access to a grants estimated at 20 million euro for the energy efficiency programs.

To note, the Electric Networks of Armenia company has petitioned to the Public Services Regulatory Commission, with a request for an electricity price hike in Armenia. If this request is granted, it will be followed by an increase in the prices of first necessity goods in the country.
