YEREVAN. – The Government of the Republic of Armenia (RA) approved a draft amendment in the law on the 2006-2007 Program for Privatization of State Property, which proposes to add Haypost company—the national postal service of the country—on the list of enterprises subject to privatization, reported Zhoghovurd daily.

“The fact is that, after Argentinean Armenian billionaire Eduardo Eurnekian came to Armenia and met with RA Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, the government launched a process aimed at the privatization of Haypost.

“Zhoghovurd has learned that it is Eurnekian himself who expressed a wish to buy Haypost, albeit there have always been proposals to whose sale, but the RA authorities had refrained from making a [respective] deal heretofore.

“As it seems, the economic situation [in Armenia] is really not good,” wrote Zhoghovurd.
