A civil rights activist has been detained in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku, reported Turan news agency of Azerbaijan.

Chairman of the Public Association Legal Education of Sumgait Youth and Chief Editor of Yukselish Namina (In the Name of Rise) online paper, Elchin Mammad, was detained Friday at the Baku airport upon arrival from Europe.

In his words, this incident occurred at around 4am. Mammad managed to call his assistant and inform about his detention.

In early April, Elchin Mammad was accused in a criminal case linked to a group of NGOs. But on April 19, the civil rights activist was permitted to leave Azerbaijan, as he was departing from the country to participate in a Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), and he was there until now.
