American Armenian Anna Tufankjian’s from Hartford, Connecticut, created a quilt, “Never Forgotten,” in memory of the 1.5 million Armenians who perished during the Armenian Genocide of 1915, The Armenian Weekly reports.

To educate the public on the Armenian Genocide, the quilt will be displayed on August 1-2 at the Greater Hartford Quilt Guild show at the Toyota Oakdale Theater.

It will also be submitted for entry in the art exhibit “Diaspora” at the Textile Museum in Washington in October 2015.

The quilt depicts Mount Ararat, the Armenian flag, Kecharis Monastery, representing Armenia as the first Christian nation, as well as a map of the early Armenian Empire. The grapevines represent just one of the bountiful harvests grown in the shadow of Mt. Ararat.

The line from the poem “We Are Few” by Barouyr Sevag also finds its place on the quilt. The forget-me-not flowers, symbolizing the Armenian Genocide, are scattered all over the quilt.
