It is hardly conceivable that [this early stage of negotiations between Armenia and EU] could exclude explorations of further economic relations, the University of West England Professor Gunter Walzenbach, Ph. D., told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

According to him, the EU Commission adopted on the 19th of May 2015 a recommendation for the Council to open negotiations about a new framework agreement replacing the earlier attempts for a closer association between Armenia and the European Union.

“While Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Customs Union is still sending shock waves through some of the corridors of power in EU member states, this latest announcement seems to indicate that the process of soul searching and potential reorientation of national interests has come to an end,” Gunter Walzenbach said.

The prospective negotiation partners have indicated their commitment to cooperate in ‘all areas of mutual interest,’ he noted.
