YEREVAN. – Zhamanak daily has learned that US$50 million of the $200 dollar soft loan, which Russia is allocating to the Republic of Armenia (RA) to purchase weapons for the country’s armed forces, will be given to the “Electric Networks of Armenia” (ENA) CJSC to pay off its 23 billion-dram (approx. $48,508,295) commitments to the electricity producers, reported the daily.

“It turns out that the RA will purchase 50 million dollar less modern weapons for the army, and our security will suffer to that extent. But on the other hand, it will be possible to prevent an electricity [price] increase [in the country].

“The ENA, of course, will return that money to the army, when the audit finds that a [price] hike [in electricity] is possible, and we start to pay more for the electricity consumption,” wrote Zhamanak.
