YEREVAN. – The problems linked to the electricity price increase in Armenia are numerous, whereas the solutions are not easy.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan stated the aforesaid at Tuesday’s economic forum organized by the Government of Armenia.

In his words, large companies—including the Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC—have amassed debts, which can lead to irreversible losses.

“New tariffs are approved, which[, however,] could not have not caused discontent among some of our citizens,” noted the PM. “We need to do everything to recover the energy sector and assist the society.”

To this end, the government is developing—together with the World Bank—the 2016-2036 plan for the energy development of Armenia. The plan will soon be introduced for public debates.
