YEREVAN. – Russia has armed Azerbaijan with such weaponry, and now, it is giving us—Armenia—a loan whereby we, in fact, are increasing our foreign debt.

Opposition Heritage Party MP Zaruhi Postanjyan stated the above-said at Thursday’s National Assembly special session devoted to the agreement on receiving a US$200-million commodity loan from Russia, and for defensive purposes.

Postanjyan addressed Deputy Minister of Defense Ara Nazaryan, who was introducing the aforesaid agreement, and specifically noted:

“Are these truly partnership relations of a strategic ally [i.e. Russia]? (…). This is not strategic partnership. Perhaps there are other relations here between Armenia and Russia.

“When will these relations be reviewed? When will you petition on behalf of Armenia, and not of an underling, and verify accounts with Russia?

“In actual fact, the Government [of Armenia] (…) has relinquished all [of its] defensive and important enterprises to Russia.

“On the one hand, Russia sells weapons to Azerbaijan, which you are silent about. [And] on the other hand, you are compelled to buy these weapons due to loan funds, which will increase our foreign debt.”
