YEREVAN. - Davit Sansaryan, one of the coordinators of Baghramyan Avenue sit-in initiative, is at the moment reading a statement:
“It’s already two weeks we have taken to the streets proving we are decisive and will stand here until victory. The authorities used force these days, attempted to devalue the movement by plotting provocations, and showing that all this has become an end in itself. Despite this, Armenian citizen is standing by the barricades,” Sanasaryan said. Other details will be presented later.
Protest against the electricity price hike has been held in Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue since June 22. In the morning of June 23, the police used force to disperse the protestors and arrested 237 people, but the protest resumed in the evening. Following Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s statement on June 28, disputes arose within the group of protest organizers and on the following day part of the protestors headed to Yerevan’s Liberty Square. The majority of the protestors, however, stayed in Baghramyan Avenue, where protests are still going on.
