YEREVAN. – Around 50 paragliders appeared in the Armenian skies as the country is holding the first ever paragliding competitions (PHOTO).

The event that brought together paragliders from European countries, U.S.,Turkey, Iran and Mongolia started on July 5 and will continue till 11.

Apart from the sportsmen, many guests and friends, just fans of this extreme sport came to Sevan to watch the competitions that also attracted the interest of residents of nearby villages and vacationers.

Preparation for the competition lasted several hours. Given the multinational composition of the participants, communication and instruction was held in Russian and English languages.

Three winners will be named in several categories, among them sport class, fan class, women.

Armenia is not a member of the World Air Sports Federation (FAI), this is the reason the tournament was called 2015 Russian Open Cup. As a result of the competitions, Armenia will consider applying for membership in the federation.
