YEREVAN. - The members coordinating the sit-in staged in Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue will stay overnight in Liberty Square, the sit-in coordinator Narek Ayvazyan said in city's Liberty Square today.

“We’ll stay overnight here and I also propose to gather in Liberty Square on Thursday and hold a peaceful action,” he said.

Following Ayvazyan’s statement, Yerevan Deputy Chief of Police Valery Osipyan  said the police will not allow to hold a march on Thursday, since, according to the law, they have to inform the authorized body about the march 7 days prior to holding it.

The police issued a statement today that they are going to open Baghramyan Avenue. The protestors were given time until 12:30 pm to open the Avenue of their own volition. Despite the urges of the police, the citizens sat in the street and continued the sit-in. The number of police forces in Baghramyan Avenue rapidly increased at about 13:00. They detained the majority of the protestors sitting in the Avenue by holding their legs and dragging. The rest were removed to the pavement by the police chain. 43 citizens were detained during the operation. At the moment Baghramyan Avenue is open, the traffic has been restored.
