YEREVAN. - Political analyst Andrias Ghukasyan today urged the citizens in Liberty Square to join him and hold an awareness action in the city. Most of the citizens in the square joined Ghukasyan. However, the police didn’t allow them to leave the square, blocking their way.

“We’ve decided to hold a peaceful march across Mashtots Avenue, Amiryan, Nalbandyan and Tumanyan streets and inform the citizens that our struggle is continuing. This is necessary now, and our march is spontaneous,” Ghukasyan said.

Former MP and Public Council member Arshak Sadoyan is also in Liberty Square.

Yerevan Deputy Chief of Police Valery Osipyan said there has been no corresponding warning regarding the march.

The police issued a statement today that they are going to open Baghramyan Avenue. The protestors were given time until 12:30 pm to open the Avenue of their own volition. Despite the urges of the police, the citizens sat in the street and continued the sit-in. The number of police forces in Baghramyan Avenue rapidly increased at about 13:00. They detained the majority of the protestors sitting in the Avenue by holding their legs and dragging. The rest were removed to the pavement by the police chain. 43 citizens were detained during the operation. At the moment Baghramyan Avenue is open, the traffic has been restored.
