Leading Turkish intellectuals have stood up against the offensive and racist statements addressed to Armenian MPs and artists by the Turkish nationalist circles during the last days.

According to the Turkish Gercekgundem website, Ankara Freedom of Thought Initiative (AFTI) has issued a statement saying that severe criticism has been received regarding the offensive and threatening announcements by the Nationalist Movement Party against the Armenian MPs and Armenian musician Tigran Hamasyan, who had left for Turkey on tour.

Roughly two hundred Turkish intellectuals, artists, lawyers and politicians have signed under AFTI’s statement.

Earlier, Mayor of Adana, member of the Nationalist Movement Party, offended the Armenian MPS who have entered the Turkish Parliament, trying to raffle the name of Matild Manukyan, the ex-owner of brothels in Turkey. Besides, Mayor of Turkish Kars city got rather furious at the fact that an Armenian musician had given a concert in the city of Ani.
