YEREVAN. – President of the National Assembly, Galust Sahakyan, will be President of Armenia for one day on Thursday, July 9, reported Hraparak daily.

“[President] Serzh Sargsyan will be out of the country on that day; he will attend in Ufa[, Russia,] the meeting of the leaders of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, [and] South Africa) and the EEU [i.e. the Eurasian Economic Union, which comprises Armenia, Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan] [countries].

“On the same day, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, together with the ministers of the economic bloc, will leave for Moscow to meet with his Russian colleague, Dmitry Medvedev.

“Thus, pursuant to the Constitution [of Armenia], Galust Sahakyan will remain the head of the country.

“It is noteworthy that the activists, who had closed Baghramyan [Avenue in capital city Yerevan] for two weeks [and who are demanding the revoking of the recent decision to raise the price of electricity in the country], have decided to hold a huge rally on the very day—July 9—of the presidency of Galust Sahakyan, whereupon they did not rule out taking other actions,” wrote Hraparak.
