STEPANAKERT. – President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR; Artsakh), Bako Sahakyan, on Wednesday visited the Kashatagh Region, where he got familiarized with the ongoing construction of a reservoir at the junction of the Hagari and Aghavno rivers.

Sahakyan stressed the importance of this reservoir for the development of agriculture in the region, and added that its operation will increase the irrigated areas and power generation zones, reported the Central Information Department of the Office of the NKR President.

The NKR President also expressed gratitude to Swiss Armenian businessman and philanthropist Vartan Sirmakes for his hands-on involvement in the implementation of this project.

He highlighted that the Kashatagh Region has major water resources, and the state will continue to pay special attention to their usage, but strictly maintaining the nature and environment protection norms.

Subsequently, Bako Sahakyan visited Arakel village in the Hadrut Region, where he attended a concert by various Artsakh bands. The President noted that the organization of such events in the countryside contributes to invigorating cultural life in these areas.

NKR Prime Minister Ara Harutyunyan and several other officials accompanied the President.
