YEREVAN. - The Republican Party of Armenia has discussed the tension on the border, RPA spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov told Armenian News – NEWS.am after the RPA Executive body session today. According to him, everyone is concerned about the situation on the border.

“You know that [Armenia’s] Defense Minister is actively visiting the military units these days. We condemn any attempt of destabilization, and Azerbaijan is destabilizing the situation. We have repeatedly noted that equalizing Armenia and Artsakh on one the one hand, and Azerbaijan on the other, is impermissible and condemnable,” Sharmazanov said, adding that the silence of superpowers concerning this issue raises greater problems.

According to Sharmazanov, the European Games held in Baku must have proved to the world that it is Azerbaijan who creates tension. In fact, the situation on the line of contact was calm during the European Games.

Referring to the statement of Azerbaijani Defense Ministry that they can destroy any military object from Nakhichevan, Sharmazanov said: “Their ministers will make such statements, while Armenian Army will become stronger. The statement has more bark than bite.”

Responding to the question on whether the meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents is possible, Sharmazanov said the Armenian side is for the settlement through talks, which isn’t the case with Azerbaijan.

In recent days, tension has been noticeable both on the Karabakh –Azerbaijan line of contact, and Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
